Review | Shu Uemura Nutri:Nectar Gentle Cleansing Oil In Emulsion & The Lightbulb Essence Essential-Oil-In Foundation

Iconic and memorable, Shu Uemura (here for more) is one of the longest standing Japanese brands which has perfected the facial cleansing routine with a wide range of cleansing oil suited to different skin types and its functionalities. This 50 years of magic legacy continues with a brand new breed of cleansing oil which is in the market for a while now - the Shu Uemura Nutri:Nectar Gentle Cleansing Oil In Emulsion! We are extremely blessed to be given the opportunity to give it a try when it first launched and now, we are delighted to share a bit of our experience with you lovelies today. #thankyoushu for the huge love! Not forgetting, we also received the new Shu Uemura Lightbulb Essence Essential-Oil-In Foundation in the same package, just when we thought it could not get any better, but it did!

Nutri:Nectar Gentle Cleansing Oil In Emulsion
Comes in two sizes, 150ml and 450ml, we received the 450ml version, just at the right time when we ran out of facial cleansing oil, but wait, this new one is not entirely made of oil, right? You are absolutely correct. It is quite a revolutionary formula where oil and emulsion are combined to create a really soothing texture that is not as "heavy" as oil, with that rather "lightweight" texture of an emulsion, yet it does not loose its efficacy as an oil cleanser, except that it will not leave your face feeling too oily but moisturised at the same time.

Empowered with 3 potent botanicals - Acai Extract (known to condition skin to maintain a healthy and radiant complexion), Magnolia Extract (known to be rich in moisturising and is a wonderful emollient with a wealth of beauty secrets) and Reishi Mushroom (known as a legendary ingredient in Chinese medicine for 2,000 years to help defend skin against external aggression). It is designed to be a one-step cleansing ritual in your skincare routine.

Comes in a semi clear coloured liquid formula, pump 2-3 pumps onto our dry palm and gently rub the cleanser all over our face in a circular motion. Then mix in with a little water to emulsify it into a slightly runny whitish milky texture, do this a couple of times we did to get all the makeup melt off our face and rinse.

At first, we struggled a little with it as it still make our face feel a little oilier than we had expected (even after a foam cleanser, we felt we had to), but over time, we got used to it, knowing that it is meant to keep our face moist as well with its one-step cleansing, there is no need for second cleansing. We have come to enjoy the fact that it is a cross between a typical facial cleansing oil and an emulsion, most definitely suited to those who have reservations or have never tried an oil cleanser before but would like to explore! It removes makeup perfectly, leaving our complexion soft and smooth.

This Nutri:nectar Gentle Cleansing Oil In Emulsion, 150ml is retailed at MYR165 and 450ml at MYR360. More about this cleansing oil in emulsion here.

Shu Uemura Lightbulb Essence Essential-Oil-In Foundation (MYR210 for 30ml)
This is Shu Uemura's very first "essential-oil-in" formulated liquid foundation, especially designed for everyday use to a healthier glowing skin. Integrate 5 precious botanical oils into 1 sensorial relaxing yet effectively caring gentle formula, this foundation provides a deep moisture feel and natural coverage that cocoons the skin with softness, instantly, the complexion radiates with a healthy glow. It also has a powerful dual protections (SPF45/PA+++) toward UVA/UVB to work as a daily city defense.

If you remember, we shared about the brand's facial oil called The Skin Perfector here before, this foundation does seem to be inspired by the facial oil, even the bottle design is similar, as in the cap when twisted, another top bounces up, and that is when you can use this auto dropper dispenser to pick up and deliver the foundation to be applied onto the skin.

The foundation is very liquidy, it is great for sheer coverage but good enough to build up slightly more with extra layers, though we personally prefer its natural coverage, leaving our skin feeling comfortable and nourishing. It evened out our skin tone and made our skin feel well rested, moisturised and not too heavy on the skin for us to handle. We love the texture of it.

Picking it up with the fairly stumpy-looking black face blender does make the application somewhat easier and pleasant, but not as much at areas of the face that are smaller like corner of the nose. It definitely make a smoother looking canvas with the foundation well blended into our complexion. With the blender a little damped, it gave the finishing a little sheer. The texture of the blender is quite "tough", it does not overly absorbed the liquid foundation as much as we had thought, which is a plus point. Since we don't usually have the habit of applying foundation with a blender, hence it is not something we reach out each time whenever we use this liquid foundation.

Shu Uemura Lightbulb Sponge Black (limited edition) is retailed at MYR65 each. Non-limited edition is white in colour. More about the foundation here.

Once again, huge thanks to Shu Uemura team Malaysia for the love. We have been truly enjoying both products since we received them many moons back! Oh, just one last note, shake the foundation well before use and you will enjoy the skincare benefits of it. More about the brand here and its Instagram here. We hope you will have a lovely and luminous new week ahead, lovelies *_^

With love,
Jeann
